01The premise
We publish what is under the lining.

Interlining, named
Every tailored jacket and every overcoat states whether its front is full canvas, half canvas, fused or unstructured. Fused is the cheapest and the most common, and it is written on the page rather than left out of it.

Down, in four numbers
Ratio of down to feather as a percentage, fill power with the test standard beside it, the grams actually in the garment, and which bird it came from. One of those four missing means the piece does not go on sale.

Claims, only with a test
Where a coat carries a repellent finish we print the rating and the exact laboratory conditions it was measured under. Where we have run no test, we make no claim at all, however tempting the word.

What this layer changes
Weight decides drape more than fibre does. The same wool at 300 gsm and at 500 gsm are two different garments — one follows the body, the other hangs off the shoulder in a column.

Almost nobody in this trade publishes the interlining type. That is why it is the first interaction on the site rather than a line in a specification table at the bottom of a page.
03Three ways to build a front
The same jacket, three prices, one hidden difference.
Half canvas
from USD 268Floating canvas over the chest and lapel, fused below the transition. The compromise most of the trade makes and almost none of it names.
The transition line is where it eventually shows its age.
Fusible
from USD 148Interfacing bonded to the back of the cloth with heat and adhesive across the entire panel. Flat and clean from the first day.

What a failed bond looks like
This is a fused front after a few years of solvent cleaning.
The adhesive lets go in patches and the face cloth lifts away from the interfacing. It cannot be pressed out and it cannot be repaired. We sell three fused garments and we would rather show you this now than have you find it in year four. If that photograph changes your mind, the half canvas jacket is USD 288 and the full canvas is USD 498.

05Down, read correctly
850 is not warmer than 750.
Fill power measures how much space one ounce of down occupies. It tells you warmth per gram, not warmth. Our 850 jacket holds 190 g and our 750 coat holds 340 g — the coat is far warmer, and it is the cheaper of the two.
What the number actually buys
Higher fill power buys you the same warmth at a lower weight and a smaller packed size. If neither of those matters to you, it is the wrong thing to pay for.

06Sizing and layering
A coat that fits over nothing fits nothing.
Every piece is measured flat in every size — shoulder, chest, length, sleeve and hem — and every piece carries a layering allowance telling you how much room is left once you put something underneath it. Both are on the product page, above the fold, not in a pop-up.
